Richard
was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1928.
He resides in Snowmass Village, Colorado. His business
office is located in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey. Richard has two sons,
one daughter, one step-daughter and three grandchildren.
In
1948, Richard graduated from Drexel University with a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Commerce and Engineering.
In
1950, he entered the building business in association with his
father and brother. During
the 50's, the company constructed single-family homes in Cherry
Hill, New Jersey. In
the early 60's, they expanded into land development, sewer and water
companies, and neighborhood shopping centers were constructed.
The
company's major project began in Mt. Laurel Township, New Jersey in
1960 - Ramblewood on the Green.
This is a country club community consisting of a 27-hole golf
course, a clubhouse including a restaurant and bar, four swimming
pools, town houses, apartments, single-family homes, and
condominiums. Richard and his son, John, are the owners of the Ramblewood
Country Club.
Goodwin
Enterprises built over 5,000 homes and apartments as well as
developing 15,000 lots for other builders. In the 70's, the company expanded into eastern Pennsylvania
and eventually built 600 HUD townhouses and 400 conventional
apartments. Richard
became the owner of the company after his father's death in 1974.
His brother left the company in 1964.
Richard
has served his local and state Home Builder's Associations as
President, and has been Vice President of the National Association
of Home Builders.
Richard
has served as a volunteer fundraiser for the United Way of
Burlington County and is a member of the "Million Dollar
Roundtable." He is
the "benefactor" of the Goodwin Holocaust Museum at the
Jewish Community Center of Southern New Jersey; a founder of the
National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia; a member of the
Ambassador's Circle of the World Jewish Congress; and has been
recognized by Drexel University for his endowment funds by being
elected into the Drexel 100 Club.
He is also the "benefactor" of the Richard C.
Goodwin College of Professional Studies at Drexel University and
received an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from the
university. His most
active charity work is for the American Friends of Neve Shalom/Wahat
al-Salam as a member of the Board of Directors and received their
Ambassador of Peace Award in April 2005.
Prostate
Cancer Foundation, a non-profit charity dedicated to finding a cure
for prostate cancer, has received over $650,000. because of the
efforts of Richard and his son, John.
The Score For the Cure Golf Tournament is held yearly to
benefit this cause on the first Tuesday of October.
Richard is the founder of the Middle East Peace Dialogue Network (www.mpdn.org)
that supports over 65 Israeli and Palestinian groups to promote
peace.
Richard Goodwin is the "benefactor" of the Richard C.
Goodwin Daycare Center at Maasai Heritage Preservation Foundation in
Kenya, Africa.
